Heeeeyyyyy and happy SONday to ya!!! I’m back with another story to tell……..
So…the other day (last Thursday, to be exact), I went to the gas station (…yeah…I know…we all do but go with me). Okay, my tank was EMPTY…like…you know…when the hand is slightly UNDER the E??? Yeah…I was there. I stopped at the BP up the street from my house (I was on my way to prayer). Well, back up a little…that morning, at that same BP, I noticed that gas was $1.94 but I didn’t have time to stop on my way to work. (Okay…fast forward again) When I went back, I noticed that gas had gone up to $2.19. This happens often; it will be one price in the morning and another in the afternoon. I NEEDED to stop so I did. I pulled up to a pump, parked my car, and got out. The attendant came out and said, “ma’am, our system is down. We are trying to get it back up as fast as we can but it’s down so our pumps are off.” I told her thank you and got back into my car and pulled off. Now, remember that my gas gauge was UNDER the E…so as I drove off, I prayed: “Lord, can I please get to this Shell up the street???” He replied, “I got you.” So, I drove to the Shell that was maybe 7 minutes away (that doesn’t include lights or traffic) and I thanked God.
Now…as I pulled into the station, I looked at my gas gauge then I parked and looked at the price of gas. At this Shell, unleaded gasoline was $1.89! This was five cents less than it had been that morning and 30 cents cheaper than what I was about to pay!!! I took a quick praise break before I exited my car, got out and pumped my gas, and was ready to be on my way. As I was about to pull out, a truck pulled out before me (he was going the opposite direction…him left…me right, nearest the drive). Nobody would let this truck out so we sat for a couple minutes. The longer we sat, I began to get a little impatient and decided that I should back up and go out the other exit. Somewhere between my deciding and my doing, another car pulled up in back of me and I was unable to go through with my plan. We sat…and we sat…and we sat…maybe 10 minutes (maybe my imagination caused me to think it was 10 minutes). So, I thought, “I’ll go anyway!” (you know, past the car behind me). As I contemplated and began to turn my steering wheel…I hesitated and stopped then someone let the truck out and I was free to go.
My point???? Mmmkay…here goes…there WILL be times…MANY times when waiting on God seems like a waste because what is in front of you seems much better than what He can give. That’s because it’s instant..like the gas price before I went to work (that $1.94 looked good). But you gotta keep working…keep serving Him..I was on my way to work so I couldn’t stop. After work, that $2.19 made me feel as if I had missed it…my chance to save a little cash. Well, we will be presented with things that will make us feel as if we have missed our blessing…our time…our calling…our destiny…but we must be encouraged and listen for God and WAIT for the signs and ques that He will send…like the attendant that let me know the system was down. When it is His timing and blessing, He will not only make it worth it when you get to it (the $1.89) but He will be sure you safely get there (the driving with the gas hand UNDER the E). Psalms 37:34 says, “Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.” So when you keep His way and heed His word, you will get your inheritance…your promise. I could have been upset and angry that I missed that early price but instead I said, “Lord, thank you for allowing me to get to the gas station.” My little sister taught Sunday School this morning (EVERYBODY oughta go! :-)) and she said that we must change our perception of where we are. She taught us about Hager and how she was in the wilderness with Ishmael and when God opened her eyes, she saw a well of water. It wasn’t until her perception was changed that she saw that which would sustain her and her son. We also learned this morning that no matter what, our promises WILL be fulfilled. So, hold on!
Oh…I almost forgot…the truck in front of me scenario! Well, you see, when you are on your way to your promise, there will be obstacles…stuff in front of you…things and people blocking you! What will make it worse is that it will be on the path that God set you on. You WILL be tempted to turn around and take a different route (like my deciding to back up and go the other way) but right when you make that rash decision, if you hold on just a LITTLE WHILE longer, God will remove that road block (like traffic halting so the driver in front of me could pull out) so that you can continue on the path that He set you on.
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
As you begin this week, I pray that you remember that the “promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen” (see 2 Corinthians 1:20). And keep with you Isaiah 55:11, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” So…what ever God promised you…it WILL come…and whatever He has for you, you WILL get to it. Don’t let the road block, that mountain, or that pick up truck in front of you, deter you from your blessing!
Love you all!!!
